From the Facebook, but here for the records:

10 Albums Challenge Day 9 … supposed to be “… an album cover that greatly influenced your taste in music. No explanations, no reviews …” How about a tribute?

By the 2000’s I was out of the grunge band. I was still listening to the blues-rock on a near constant loop. But I was absolutely digging into singer-songwriter stuff. I was writing and recording songs on my own and then … I met the love of my life – and a year after meeting we were married.

And music now is about our shared discoveries. We share it in the cars we rent. In the kitchen where we dance. It’s the bits we hum together when we walk the dog. You know what I mean? It’s like “our friends” and “our music” and all the movies I wrote with her input and edits I make her watch and all of it. It’s a we-thing. And we dig this album. This record is like the coolest but most nerdy highschool band of all time – it’s just so … her. This record is about singing along. And with Amanda that includes a whistle solo!

Anyway, it’s been like 20 years solid. She’s the best. She’s my home. And now we got this kid alongside us. Too blessed. Oh, she can harmonize like a demon. And this record is one of her favourites on long drives. This record is like her – smart as hell, and also really really really sweet. And it’s a brilliantly produced record with astoundingly deft songwriting.

And special shout-out to one of the all-time comedies, Little Miss Sunshine, ‘cause now when I hear Chicago from this record, all I think about is that hopeful family, getting over shit, and coming together to ride off into the sunset together.
